Very flattering designs with an understated beauty. It is not really the type of clothes I generally wear, as I look for more fun and colour. But these panels are cut and put together in very clever ways, to really accentuate the womanly shape in a very flattering way. That monochrome evening dress has superstar qualities!

Great jackets by a fellow Scandinavian

These are beautiful. I thought the tux jackets were taking a break, but these designs by Jens Laugesen rekindles my passion for beautifully cut, festive jackets. I might go out searching for a long, narrow-cut version.

Eley Kishimoto S/S 2008 favourite designs

These are my favourite designs from the Eley Kishimoto s/s 2008 collection. The shorts are great fun, comfortable to wear and can be worn in so many ways. I also like the patterned dress with striking block colour panels. Strong block colours are always winners in my book, and when combined with a sexy, innovative, yet very wearable cut as seen in this orange and purple dress I consider it a success. Not sure I will find anything like it on the high street though...

I want this on my wall!

A great, quirky dress by Anna Sui - or is that lower half a shorts, not a skirt? I think I would like to lecture in this one, but I would have to have some very opaque tights to not give the students a laugh.

Some greenery by Chris Benz. I love the colours. His collection was all about colours. The cuts were ok and I am not too much in love with the silk satin, but the colouring was exceptionally good.


And finally, a dress by Jeremy Laing with the cross-shaped neckline which seemed to pop up everywhere in New York this fashion week. The last outfit, also by Laing, is maybe more yellow, but hey, I like it!

Clever use of colour

The DKNY spring/summer collection 2008 is hardly revolutionary, but I think their use of hot orange and pink accents works really well and is something that can help update that boring office outfit without too much effort. Also the wide-legged pants are perfect! Photos from style.com.

Favorite jackets

The jacket on top, by Marc Jacobs, is something I could have found in my grandmother's closet. In my more experimental years in high school, I always raided my grandmother's closet, so no wonder I love this jacket by Jacobs too! The knitted jacket by Proenza Schouler is also really great, and appeared in many versions on the catwalk. The danger with this kind of knitwear is of course that it easily looks bulky, so not sure how great it would look on an average-height, average-weight woman. The black side-panels do help though.
The belts, which are everywhere these days, are also a mixed blessing. They aren't all that comfortable to wear while sitting at the desk and my not so very flat tummy kind of gets accentuated. I guess eating less and doing more work on the abs is the only solution to that one, or just skip the belts.... The Proenza Schouler jacket wouldn't look so good without though.

Days gone by - Rodarte, NY fashion week Spring/Summer 2008

One of my absolute favorite designs of NY fashion week is the pleated skirt by Rodarte. I didn't like all their designs and haven't been so keen in the past, but I really, really loved the colour and bounce of the the finely pleated skirt. The slouchy jacket and skirt combo was also really fresh and beautiful, as was the classic, yet special black evening dress. Photos from style.com.
